ISCT Webinar: LabSmart Modelling Tool - Operations Modelling to Streamline Cell Therapy Manufacturing

Sponsored by London Regenerative Medicine Network

Organized by the ISCT Business Models and COGs Subcommittee in Collaboration with the British Regen Industry Tool Set (BRITS)

Date: Wednesday, May 28, 2014

Chair: Emily Culme-Seymour, PhD, Director, London Regenerative Medicine Network, London, (UK) and ISCT Global Treasurer 2014 - 2017

Speakers: Maria Chisholm, PhD, Process Improvement Manager, LGC Limited, (UK) and Daniel Hopkins, Project Manager, Science and Innovation, LGC Limited (UK)

About the Webinar:

The British Regen Industry Tool Set (BRITS) project is focused on the commercialisation of cell therapy and regenerative medicine within the UK, and has had an emphasis on building a set of tools that have the ability to streamline cell therapy process development, manufacturing, business development, and regulatory strategies. The project is a collaboration involving a number of project partners including UCL, Lonza, LGC, Future Medicine, LRMN, and the NHS Technology Adoption Centre, and is co-funded by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) under their Regenerative Medicine program: Value Systems and Business Modelling.

One of the tool sets that has been developed within the project is a discrete event modelling tool that enables operations modelling with the aim of optimising future operation in manufacturing cell therapies. We have built a case study to show how to the tool can be used to simulate a cell therapy manufacturing operation, demonstrating the benefits such a tool can bring for resource planning and management in this domain.

Topics to be addressed:
  • Process modelling for efficient operations design - learning points from LGC's Process and Operational Efficiency Team
  • Discrete Event Simulation for cell therapy manufacturers - the BRITS case study
Key Learning Objectives:
  • Introduce the concept of discrete event modelling
  • Provide an understanding of how such a tool can be applied within a cell therapy operation to aid process optimisation

E. Culme-Seymour, M. Chisholm and D. Hopkins are investigators on the BRITS project funded by the UK Technology Strategy Board under their Regenerative Medicine program: Value Systems and Business Modelling.
