“‘I wish it need not have happened in my time,’ said Frodo. ‘So do I,’ said Gandalf, ‘and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.’
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
Dear ISCT Colleagues,

“Truly global.” For ISCT, this is more than a slogan – it is a promise to our members, and one that we strive to uphold throughout the ongoing pandemic.

The last few weeks have forced each of us to make sacrifices, both personal and professional. Many of us risk exposure every day. Many face a physical isolation that has never been a global norm. This crisis will not compromise the resolve that has driven the global healthcare community, and drastic adjustments from business leaders trying to position production and supply to help flatten the curve and slow the spread of COVID-19.

We see this resolve resonating across our membership, and so we commit to uphold and honor it. Know that regardless of the responsibilities and tasks that lie ahead, though we may be physically distant, we are professionally and socially connected through ISCT. We will meet this year through the reimagined ISCT 2020 Paris Virtual!

We hold to our continued commitment to preserve and nurture our community of cell and gene therapy professionals. We have mobilised the full efforts of our head office, and the strength of our society’s resources, to bring you on May 28 – 29, a chance to connect with one another. ISCT 2020 Paris Virtual will be a thrilling around-the-globe, around-the-clock program that will showcase leading innovations in our field. Our plan is to make this online experience accessible like no other annual meeting we have held before.

It is our fervent belief that we must continue to communicate and collaborate even prior to the meeting itself. The capacity is on hand to do so. For example, ISCT’s Laboratory Life Line is ready as a forum in which to seek support and share knowledge for practices and workflows in this shifting moment. Our BEACON database continues to be fully accessible and can be used to share or access useful research materials.Telegraft continues to operate at full capacity – consider sharing your thoughts and insights in an article soon. Beyond all this, social media like the ISCT LinkedIn Group page and Twitter magnifies the impact of scientific meetings beyond the attendees and also lets us connect with one another in an informal and instant way.

We invite you to share insights and inspiration, and to discuss how you or your community are coping with this crisis. Use our ISCT 2020 Paris Virtual Meeting and connection hashtag #ISCTTogether and follow us at @ISCTGlobal, @ISCT_ESP, and @BLLPHD.

The ISCT 2020 Paris Virtual meeting is your chance to interact and support our global society. Together we can audaciously face this global crisis together. Our actions at this critical moment will have lasting consequences for the future. We are relying on our membership and friends, now more than ever, to fulfill their commitments. Equally, the ISCT leadership is committed to pursuing our ongoing mission to connect, to communicate and to translate. Please share your stories of inspiration and endurance so we might all be encouraged.

As our peak global cell and gene therapy forum approaches in under two months, we ask you to share the growing excitement around ISCT 2020 Paris Virtual. If you have already registered for the face-to-face meeting then – good news - you are already registered! If you were waiting on the fence, then it’s time to register and encourage all your students, friends and colleagues to register. This time you don’t need to pay for airfares or accommodation – there has never been better ISCT value!

Your first virtual café and croissant is on us!
